Within the deep recesses of The Living Rock Studios, there are seven windows formed into the rock wall. Through these narrow openings, you can see scenes from biblical stories that, when lit from behind, come to life.

At first glance, the pictures resemble stain glass windows. However, the design and construction of these pictures are much more intricate. Complex combinations of thin slices of rock, not glass, created each picture.

The color and texture shown in the pictures are achieved through the natural characteristics inherent in the rocks used. Every rock slice was chosen for its color, pattern and translucency.

Sometimes it took days, even weeks to find the precise rock slice needed for each image. Agates were the main type of stone used, along with marble, chalcedony, petrified wood, and obsidian.

Just one picture measures 30 inches high and 24 inches wide.
